The Shaw and Partners Summer of Surf Series is excited to announce 3 Victorian events in the 2023/24 Summer of Surf Schedule with Surf Life Saving Lakes Entrance to host the highly anticipated final event the 17th and 18th of February 2024. With over 500 athletes, the event promises to showcase not only Australia’s elite surf sport stars but also the East Gippsland region while being broadcast nationwide on 7plus.

Destination Gippsland, the East Gippsland Shire Council, and Surf Life Saving Lakes Entrance join forces in celebrating the national Summer of Surf series coming to the region. The event will both draw participants and spectators from far and wide but also serve as an economic catalyst, promoting Lakes Entrance and the region as a premier sporting destination.

The Summer of Surf event will feature a $5,000 prize pool and valuable Summer of Surf series points, with the action being brought to fans across Australia through the 7plus broadcast. Further event highlights and imagery will be shared with the Summer of Surf’s global surf sports audience.

In addition to the high stakes open racing, the event will host the Shaw and Partners Summer of Surf nipper clinic on Sunday. This segment aims to inspire the next generation of surf sports stars and provide young athletes the chance to meet and learn from some of their sporting heroes.

Representing Destination Gippsland, CEO Terry Robinson expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled to host the Summer of Surf event in our region and showcase not only Lakes Entrance but also provide a platform for athletes to display their extraordinary talents. We extend a warm welcome to all participants and visitors and invite them to explore the beauty and unique experiences that East Gippsland has to offer.”

East Gippsland Shire Council is proud to back the Summer of Surf.

“This event will showcase our beautiful coastline, bring recognition to both Lakes Entrance as a premier destination for sports and adventure, and provide a welcome boost to the regional economy,” Deputy Mayor Cr Arthur Allen said.

“East Gippsland recently achieved Ecotourism Australia’s ECO Destination Certification and we’re proud of our efforts both in Lakes Entrance and across the shire to provide nature-based, sustainable travel opportunities.

“We look forward to welcoming athletes from across the nation to our eco-friendly and nature-based tourism region.”

Surf Life Saving Lakes Entrance committee also looks forward to hosting their first major surf life-saving event in over a decade, stating, “As a cornerstone of the local community, Surf Life Saving Lakes Entrance is honoured to be hosting the Summer of Surf event. We are excited to welcome athletes from across Australia and provide them with a platform to showcase their skills. This event underscores our dedication to the surf life-saving movement and serves as an inspiration for future generations of both surf sport enthusiasts and lifesavers.”
