    WHY?

    BENNY CARBS WILL BE THERE

Born and breed in the Gong, heading home in pursuit of another 5,000 points, and already sitting at the top of the point score, you may well agree that this is a dangerous place to have Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park’s Ironman Ben Carberry sitting so early in the series.

Evidently in form as he shook out the winter cobwebs and took out the win at Wanda, it’s clear that Benny means business. Booked in for Bulli, intentions of another consistent season, and with 5,000 points already to his name, Benny is one step ahead of every other Ironman vying for the overall series.

“I am definitely looking to have another consistent year of racing, along with a bit of fun with the crew,” he said.

With family, friends, and local knowledge in his corner, it’s time to get your entries in, and your flights booked before Benny takes on Bulli, with the high possibility of claiming another 5,000 points!

    LIZZIE WELBORN WILL BE THERE!

Looking to go one better than last year, the Bulli Sydney Water 5,000 will see Lizzie Welborn line up in her first race of the season! As a proud New South Wales Ironwoman, Lizzie is excited to hit the beach and begin her summer success at a local carnival.

“I love racing in local NSW carnivals – this will be my first iron race of the season, and I am excited to hear the gun,” she said.

Finishing a mere 230 points behind Courtney Hancock in the 2022/23 Open Ironwoman series point score, Lizzie knows how important the smaller rounds are for the title.

“Last season the 5,000-point Summer of Surf rounds were really important for the overall point score, and that is the title I would love to try and claim!”

Lizzie will be at Bulli, chasing down her first 5,000 points for the overall series like it depends on it – why? Because it does.

    BORGY WILL BE THERE

Finishing his 2022/23 season with a 9th placing in the overall Ironman standings, securing 4 out of his 5 results in the top ten, and recently taking out the Open Male Short Course Coolangatta Gold, there is no denying that Jackson Borg will be one to watch when we hit Bulli!

Balancing a busy schedule during the winter months, Borgy looks at his summer season opener as simply, a little weekend getaway paired with an opportunity to race.

“I always enjoy racing down in Wollongong and love taking any opportunity to race that I can!”

Looking to better his results from last year and with a cheeky win already under his belt, Borgy will be at Bulli in hope of grabbing himself, 5,000 points.

    BEN HIGHFIELD WILL BE THERE

Turning back the clock and trekking down south, Surfers Paradise’s Ben Highfield will be heading to Bulli! Taking out 7th place overall in the Open Male Surf Race in the 2022/23 Swim Series, Ben will not only endeavor to improve on his results but enjoy a little nostalgia as he returns to Bulli Beach, a place he visited and race at many times during his grommet years.

“I just want to race, plus it’s at a location that is very close to my home of Cronulla and as a grom, we used to travel down there a lot to race.

“I think it’s also a really beautiful area.”

    Ben, we couldn’t agree more!

Sitting beneath a spectacular mountain range, Bulli beach will not only deliver a stunning coastline, but will surround our athletes, coaches, and spectators with a serenity not to be missed!

    BAILEY KRSTEVSKI WILL BE THERE!

Kick starting his summer season with a 7th placing in the Open Male Board Race at the Wanda Tradies ‘One Club’ carnival, Bailey Krstevski is keen to not only improve on his own performance but aspires to watch and learn from the best in business!

Looking to our top tier athletes to better enhance his own performance, Bailey is setting himself up early for greater success in the future.

“I am heading to Bulli for an opportunity to race some of the best athletes in the sport early in the season,” he said.

“Racing them early in the season will help me get an idea of where I’m at and will help me know what to work on at training.”

Bailey’s plan is bulletproof and what better way to execute it than at Bulli with the Shaw and Partners Summer of Surf Series?!

    PIPER HARRISON WILL BE THERE!

She took the crown at Wanda, qualified for the Nutri Grain Ironwoman series on Sunday and will back up at Bulli this coming weekend!

Newport’s Piper Harrison is chasing her dreams and doing it well! Encouraged to race as much as possible, learning from her experiences within the Shaw and Partners Summer of Surf series and loving every minute of it, Piper currently sits at the top of the point score, and intends on staying there.

“The Summer of Surf series has become such a big and exciting event on the calendar, and I love being a part of it!

“I have always been encouraged to race as much as possible, you learn so much from racing that can’t be emulated by training!”

Heading south with success in her wake and her sights set on every Shaw and Partners Summer of Surf round, you better get yourself to Bulli and join Piper as she; “wouldn’t miss it!”

    BULLI BEACH BARRELLS (POTENTIALLY!)

Sitting on the south coast of New South Wales, Bulli Beach tends to offer reasonably consistent wave. Home to a reef break, this exposed beach will pick up most ground swells and wind swells coming its way!

With a left and a right break on offer, Bulli Beach may very well present perfect conditions for a weekend of surf sports racing, and a cheeky Sunday morning surf!
