The Shaw and Partners Summer of Surf Series is set to hit the shores of Bulli Beach this Saturday and Sunday, the 18th and 19th of November!
In partnership with the Sydney Water Surf Series, the Bulli Summer of Surf Sydney 5,000 will see over 1,000 participants hit the waters of Wollongong across the weekend of racing. Saturday will see the U8-U13 age groups, with the U14-Masters vying for more early points for the overall series on the Sunday.
With a livestream broadcast taking place for the on the Summer of Surf Facebook at 12.15pm AESDT on Sunday, later to be viewed on 7Plus, the collaboration with Surf Lifesaving Illawarra Branch and Destination Wollongong guarantees a spectacle of exhilarating surf sports, enriched with exquisite coastlines and beach culture.
“Destination Wollongong is proud to be supporting the second stop of the Shaw and Partners Summer of Surf Series in Bulli,” said enthused Mark Sleigh, General Manager of Destination Wollongong.
“With the event showcasing the beauty and beach culture that defines our coastal city, we are privileged to share Bulli’s incredible beach and sense of community with participants and attendees.”
Returning home to Wollongong, the current Open Ironman series leader, Ben Carberry, will put his toe on the line in pursuit of another 5,000 points, and a few waves.
“It’s always good to make the trip back home to race, especially on Bulli Beach when the wind and the surf are up, with some solid waves rolling through, it will be a great weekend of racing.”
With family, friends, and local knowledge in his corner, evidently in form and chasing the points, Carberry will be one to watch next weekend!
“I am definitely looking to have another consistent year of racing, along with a bit of fun with the crew!” he said.
In the female series Newport young gun, Piper Harrison will head south to continue her early summer success.
Taking the win in round 1 at Wanda, recently qualifying for the Nutri Grain Ironwoman Series, and looking to back up at Bulli this coming weekend, Harrison is excited to be back on the beach.
“The Summer of Surf series has become such a big and exciting event on the calendar, and I love being a part of it,” she said.
“I have always been encouraged to race as much as possible, you learn so much from racing that can’t be emulated by training! I wouldn’t miss it.”
Showcasing the incredible Wollongong region, offering a ringside seat to all the action and presented on 7Plus at a later date, the Bulli Summer of Surf Sydney Water 5,000 will commence on Saturday 18th of November at 8am.
