Conditions caused havoc for the Ironmen and Ironwomen at day one of the Shaw and Partners Financial Services Summer of Surf Shannon Eckstein Double Header Classic!

Charging down the face of a 5ft wave, Ironman Ky Kinsela secured himself his first win of the season with a wave that earnt him $10,000!

Out skilling the rest of the field, Kinsella showcased some of the best body surfing skills in surf sports history to claim victory ahead of Surfers Paradise Ironman Ali Day and Burleigh Heads Mowbray Parks Ben Carberry.

In the women’s event, Alexandra Headland’s Emma Woods caused an upset coming from behind to take her first win of the summer series with BMD Northcliffe’s Naomi Scott and Sunshine Beach’s Electra Outram rounding out the minor placings.

Jakye Rees handled the surf perfectly to take out the Open Men’s Ski ahead of Manly’s Oscar Jones and Newport clubmate, Mitchell Trim.

Claiming a win on her home beach saw BMD Northcliffe’s Emily Doyle take out the women’s event, proving too strong for Newport duo, Piper Harrison and Jemma Smith.

In the Men’s Board event Burleigh Head’s Mowbray Park’s Corey Fletcher stormed home to charge ahead of the 8-man chase pack to secure himself a back-to-back win. Fletcher was too quick for Newport’s Charlie Brooks and BMD Northcliffe’s Jake Morris.

In the women’s event, Wood’s proved that she was back in form, taking out her second win of the day ahead of Outram and Maroochydore’s black swan, Tiarnee Massie.

Returning to the surf and stamping his name on top saw BMD Northcliffe’s Nick Sloman take home his first win of the season at his first 2023/24 summer series competition appearance.

The 2024 Pairs Olympic Open Water swimmer was too quick for club mate Bailey Armstrong and Wanda’s Nicholas Middleton.

In the women’s event, Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park’s young gun Jasmine Rayward flew home to secure another win for her resume, with BMD Northcliffe’s Olivia Corrin and Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park’s Claudia-Rose Slaven taking home the minor placings.

In the final event of the day, BMD Northcliffe proved to be the powerhouse taking home the double with a 1 – 2 in the 6-person Mixed Taplin. Burleigh Head’s Mowbray Park took third.
